"Enlightenment's Intrusion"

Enlightenment's Intrusion

One day two lovers, sat side by side,
they pondered the universe and its forces which abide.
Its bliss and its sorrow both stirred much emotion.
They knew life without the latter, is but a comical notion.
Their eyes were suddenly open, and enlightenment fell
upon the lovers' heads; they knew both Heaven and Hell.
They knew nothing was real, not beauty not pain,
not the sun that shines down, not the wind nor the rain...
Not the lovers themselves, they finally realized,
as they turned to gaze into one another's eyes.
At that moment the lovers smiled,
forgiving enlightenment's intrusion...
and the two lovers sat, and enjoyed the illusion.
