The Lovers

We danced and you opened up to me
the secrets with which you keep the world away
and yes I know there are more....
each secret the covering of something else
that perhaps you have even hidden from yourself..
and I swam through these layers and indulged in these memories
formed from impressions and glimpses of a life you cannot recall
and somewhere in these moments it all came together....
the wind, and the rain and the stars across the inky black of night....
the storm in the distance sending light out across the sky
the distance in your eyes and the barrenness of the land
the fullness of your breast and the touch of your hand
and we were naked then too...
just as we stand naked now
before all of eternity.....and having only now....
this one moment in time separated from all the rest
and yes it is not real....we too know they all flow into and out of each other
until they entangle their lives with our own....
but there is that sun
yes, you know the one of which i speak
....that light which we do not see
spinning in a cosmos all its own
in the shadow of a universe our eyes have never known..
and with each revolution it calls us closer and closer.....
and our footsteps follow its hum....
that echoes behind all that we taste, touch and see....
in this world of paper-mache
all that we know here
all that we see
all that we are of... of you and of me.
